Mumbai, May 17 (IANS) — The Mumbai-based pharmaceutical firm Viagra has been fined a record amount after it was found to have a significant amount of counterfeit Viagra in its luggage, after it was revealed that the company paid out to the Indian doctor, Dr. Gopi, for the medication. The tablets, which had an active ingredient called Sildenafil Citrate, were manufactured in China and India and contained an unapproved dose of impotency drugs known as "Viagra."
The US-based company, which is based in Washington, said it was "in full compliance with the company's manufacturing and marketing procedures and with regulatory approvals."
The company is also under investigation by the US Justice Department as it had not received FDA approval for its Viagra-type erectile dysfunction drugs, "Sildenafil Citrate."
